MNIK S2 (2)

TERE NAINA:

Music: Shankar Ehsaan Loy
Singer: Shafqat Amanat Ali
Lyrics: Niranjan Iyengar

Tere naina, tere naina, tere naina re – 4
Your eyes…..
Nainon ki chaal hai, makhmali haal hai
Eyes have a velvet touch
Neechi palkon se badle samaa
From beneath lashes they can change the world
Naina sharamaye jo, ya ke bhar aaye jo
When eyes are shy or fill with tears
Tham ke ruk jaaye dono jahaan
The worlds come to a standstill
Rab ki nemat hai teri nigaahein
Eyes are God’s gift to you
Jisme basti hai uski duayein
Wherein reside His blessings
Aise naino ki baaton mein koi kyun na aaye
Who can resist the power of eyes such as yours
Ho Tere naina, tere naina, tere naina re – 2
Your eyes….

Ho Aise naino ki baaton mein koi kyun na aaye
Who can resist the power of eyes such as yours
Ho Tere naina, tere naina, tere naina re – 2 times
Your eyes……

Aahat khwabon ki, chahat dhadkan ki
A treasure of dreams, desires of the heart
Unke kadmon ke hai ye nishaan
These are what eyes hold in their depths
Chahe kuch na boloon, chahe raaz na kholoon
I don’t have to speak nor reveal any secret
Ye samajte hai meri zubaan
They understand every unspoken word
Mujhpe barsi jo teri nigaahein
When your eyes rained down on me
Meri saanson ne badli adaayein
My breath changed its beat
Hoo Aise naino ki baaton mein koi kyun na aaye
Who can resist the power of eyes such as yours
Ho Tere naina, tere naina, tere naina re – 2
Your eyes….
Aise naino ki baaton mein koi kyun na aaye
Who can resist the power of eyes such as yours
Ho Tere naina, tere naina, tere naina re – 2
Your eyes…..
Tere naina, raahein saja de
Your eyes light up my paths
Tere naina, doori mita de
Your eyes draw me closer to you
Tere naina, dhadkan ko badha de
Your eyes make my heart beat faster
Tere naina, palkon mein samaa le
Your eyes hold me in them
Wallah
Oh Lord

Zakham pe marham, tere naina
Your eyes are like balm on a wound
Phool pe shabman, tere naina
Your eyes are like dew on a flower
Jag bhoole bhoole, tere naina
Your eyes make me forget the world
Dil choo le choo le, tere naina
Your eyes touch my heart
Tere nainon ke aage toh taaren bhi sharamaye ..
Even the stars are ashamed when compared to your eyes
Pa ni sa re sa ni dha pa
Ni dha pa ma ga re sa

Tere naina, tere naina
Your eyes…..
Nainon ki chaal hai, makhmali haal hai
Eyes have a velvet touch
Neechi palkon se badle samaa
From beneath lashes they can change the world
Rab ki nemat hai teri nigaahein
Eyes are God’s gift to you
Jisme basti hai uski duayein
Wherein reside His blessings
Aise naino ki baaton mein koi kyun na aaye
Who can resist the power of eyes such as yours
Ho Tere naina, tere naina, tere naina re – 4
Your eyes….

    some wrong translations :

    1. aahat khwabon ki—- is not a treasure of dreams , rather: the sound of dreams
    2. nainon ki chaal hai— is not eyes have a velvet touch, but : your eyes have tricks
    3. Tere nainon ke aage toh taaren bhi sharamaye .. — is NOT
Even the stars are ashamed when compared to your eyes , but:
even the stars are shy in front of ur eyes

    4. makhmali haal hai —— that softens me like velvet.

    Rakesh:

    Excellent translation.

Here is a more literal translation – it might lose the poetic touch that you gave though 😦 .

Tere naina, tere naina, tere naina re – 4
    Your eyes…..
    ————–

Nainon ki chaal hai, makhmali haal hai
movement (or plot?) of the eyes, Eyes have a velvet feel(ings)

    Neechi palkon se badle samaa
    lowered lashes change the moment/time/era

Naina sharamaye jo, ya ke bhar aaye jo
when eyes are blushful/abashed/shy or are filled (with tears)

Tham ke ruk jaaye dono jahaan
Both worlds come to a standstill

Rab ki nemat hai teri nigaahein
    your glance/sight/eyes are God’s gift

    Jisme basti hai uski duayein
    Wherein reside His blessings

Aise naino ki baaton mein koi kyun na aaye
Who can resist yielding to eyes such as these [have to say]

    ————–

Aahat khwabon ki, chahat dhadkan ki
The sound [clatter/ticking] of thoughts [/dreams/ desires], desires of the heart

Unke kadmon ke hain ye nishaan
    these are their footprints

Chahe kuch na boloon, chahe raaz na kholoon
even if I don’t speak nor reveal any secret

    Ye samajte hai meri zubaan
    They understand my language

    Mujhpe barsi jo teri nigaahein
When your eyes rained down on me

    Meri saanson ne badli adaayein
    My breath changed its mannerisms/gestures
    ————–

Tere naina – raahein saja de
Your eyes – adorn (light up) paths

Tere naina – doori mita de
Your eyes – erase distances (draw me closer to you)

Tere naina – dhadkan ko badha de
Your eyes – make the heart beat faster

Tere naina – palkon mein samaa le
Your eyes – contain/hold within the eyelashes

    Wallah
    Oh Lord

    Zakham pe marham, tere naina
balm on a wound – your eyes

    Phool pe shabman, tere naina
dew on a flower – your eyes

    Jag bhoole bhoole, tere naina
forgotten this world – your eyes

Dil choo le choo le, tere naina
touch the heart – your eyes

Tere nainon ke aage toh taaren bhi sharamaye ..
Even the stars blush in the presence of your eyes

Pa ni sa re sa ni dha pa
Ni dha pa ma ga re sa

    4. makhmali haal hai —— that softens me like velvet.

Thanks to rakesh and everyone who has contributed to translating this beautiful song!

Sanam, I am trying to learn Hindi. Why is this phrase “makhmali haal hai” translated “that softens me like velvet?” I thought it meant “is a velvety state/condition.”

At the risk of being redundant here… THANKS so much for providing the translation of this song. I love it so much and glad to know what it is the guy is saying… I dont know if it is the way he sings it or if it is the words themselves but something about the song…. i just cant stop listening to it.

I’ve listened to it everyday since I watch ‘My name is Khan’ is the main character was not already married…. i’d marry him myself!! lol

Hi I’m from Philippines and I always admired hindi songs because of it’s unique touch, Tere Naina is my favorite because there’s something romatic about it, but never really understood it.

Thank you for the translation I now understand the beautiful words behind the song. It’s so wonderful and heart-warming, thank you very much!
